Quote of the day - Bauer

"If typos were terrorists, I would be Jack Bauer"

Said by Daniel Grosvenor on "Freak like me" (BBC3):
I was walking down Queen Street with Nate and Paula a few months back when two girls shoved a camera in our faces and asked “Do you do anything weird?” Paula, who is far too helpful for her own good, made us stop and think intently about this before chirping up with “Well, I only use toilet paper if the number of sheets is divisible by four. He always takes photographs of his food, and he’s a Grammar Nazi.”

The girls excitedly interviewed us then scuttled off and we carried about our day. Being attacked by random people on Queen Street is actually quite common so we didn’t think too much of it, but about a month later I got a call from Endemol saying: “We loved your audition tape. Can we put you in our programme?”

Apparently ranting about why I’d never date a girl who couldn’t differentiate between you’re and your is now classed as an audition!

Righteous Kill

Yesterday I saw Righteous Kill with Robert de Niro, Al Pacino, 50 Cent, Donnie Wahlberg, John Leguizamo and Carla Gugino.

Any movie starring both Robert de Niro and Al Pacino have to be good, and Righteous Kill lived up to my expectations! Most people give it a bad review, but I really liked it. Most of all because of the chemistry between de Niro and Pacino. I guess most people had too high expectations before watching a movie starring two of the most legendary actors still alive. So it might be better to not expect too much before watching it...

Movie summary:
Turk and Rooster, two aging NYPD detectives who have been longtime partners are faced with a serial killer who is murdering sociopathic criminals. They both have personal issues, and when they start working with a younger team, Perez and Riley, tensions between the pairs of partners is inevitable, especially since Turk is now dating Perez's ex-girlfriend, also a homicide detective.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

"Why didn't anyone tell me that you can't take the subway to Yumbo???"

Even though its over a year since "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" came out, I haven't heard so much about it and neither have I had any desire to watch it. The only thought I have had about the movie is that John Travolta finally embraced the gay leather biker living inside him. Next we'll se him wandering around in Yumbo... ;)

But yesterday we ended up with this movie, and now it is one of my all time favorites! I'm not a big fan of typical american movies, and not so much of action movies either. But this movie was surprisingly great! And especially the performances by John Travolta and Denzel Washington. Absolutely worth a shot!

Movie trailer:

Movie summary:
In early afternoon, four armed men hijack a subway train in Manhattan. They stop on a slight incline, decoupling the first car to let the rest of the train coast back. Their leader is Ryder; he connects by phone with Walter Garber, the dispatcher watching that line. Garber is a supervisor temporarily demoted while being investigated for bribery. Ryder demands $10 million within an hour, or he'll start shooting hostages. He'll deal only with Garber. The mayor okays the payoff, the news of the hostage situation sends the stock market tumbling, and it's unclear what Ryder really wants or if Garber is part of the deal. Will hostages, kidnappers, and negotiators live through this?

Cat stroller

I saw some strollers in the pet store today. I really can not imagine seeing my cats inside one of those. Much less me walking down the street with my cats inside a stroller...

I tried with a leash once, but they were really not intrigued by that. And of course they got tangled up in everything they saw.

I gave up after a few tries, so now they come and go as they like and we all have lived happily so far.

Interesting facts about the war in Iraq from WikiLeaks

The reports detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 'civilians'; 23,984 'enemy' (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 'host nation' (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 'friendly' (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these are civilian deaths.

That is 31 civilians dying every day during the six year period.

For comparison, the 'Afghan War Diaries', previously released by WikiLeaks, covering the same period, detail the deaths of some 20,000 people. Iraq during the same period, was five times as lethal with equivallent population size.

Coctail of shots

I had the worlds most horrible migraine attack yesterday! After 12 hours and a bunch of pills I had no other choice but to go to the Emergency where I got a cocktail of shots. Nope, not the drinking kind of shots, but the spritzing kind... But it helped!

Only last week I was reading that the Canaries was the spanish region with most cases of migraine. The reason could be due to the fact that the climate on the Canaries is heavenly influenced by winds, especially trade winds and foehn winds.

Foehn winds are not only associated with migraine, but even psychosis! A study by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München found that suicide and accidents increased by 10 percent during foehn winds in Central Europe. That´s crazy!

Thank God I "only" had a migraine...

The Wiki Game

If you don't want to work but want to pretend that you are working, check out The Wiki Game. The idea is to get from one random word to another in as few clicks as possible. There is also a little chat box on the side so you can chat with the others who are playing, or even play against your friends. You can also check out the click paths of the other players.

But the most fun is the strange connections between the words. How many clicks do you think it takes to get from "urine" to "Kanye West" for example? Four...Other examples; from "helium" to "soul", from "banana" to "Britney Spears" or from "Adrien Brody" to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".

Check it out yourself! But beware, the game can be quite addictive.

Another alternative is to play "5 clicks to Jesus". Start on a random Wikipedia article and get to the article about Jesus in less than 5 clicks. When you get bored of that, you can change Jesus with any other word of your choice.
