My two all-time favorite actors; Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie - together - in the same movie. Life is just too good to be true sometimes! Or is it...?
Two of the best and most sexy actors in the whole world sharing the screen. It should be magical, dynamite, sensual. People should be flabbergasted by talent and movie theaters should explode of all the hotness. But something is not quite right.
"The Tourist" has gotten lousy reviews, and I can understand why. I liked the movie, but maybe it was because I read the reviews and thought it would be even worse than it actually was. Though that may be hard to imagine for some people.
Or maybe its that I like Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie so much that I would like any kind of movie they are in. Hard to tell.
But I think the biggest problem is that most people have waaay too high expectations; Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie - the names says it all. The expectations are skyhigh, and it can not be easy living up to that.
I am sure the same movie, with two less popular actors would have gotten much better reviews. But with those names you just expect it to be a bit more... I don't know. More of everything. In a class of its own, and its not.
The movie is also categorised as a thriller. A thriller?!? Are you kidding me??? Take it like a comedy, and you will like it. Expect a thriller and you will hate it.
And Angelina Jolie with a british accent? Another thing you can put under comedy...
Take Johnny Depp serious and it looks like he sleepwalks his way through the film. Take his words and actions with a funny undertone, and don't expect to see a hot and sexy Depp, cause you will only find a fat and bloated Depp instead. But a few times you will see the little sparkle in his eyes. Don't blink, because you might miss it.
Not quite sure who decided to strip Depp of all his sexiness, and put Angelina in all those ridiculous, supposedly sexy outfits, but that person should be fired. And all the heads turning to look at her the whole time makes it seem more like a commercial for a perfume, or rather a parody of a commercial.
But forget all that, and don't expect too much. Just sit back, relax and enjoy. There are far worse ways to spend two hours.
